Summary: While shopping at the local mall, Kinsey notices a shoplifter in action and brings it to the staff’s attention. After the suspect makes bail, she apparently jumps off a bridge. The woman’s bereaved fiancĂ© is convinced she didn’t kill herself, and wants Kinsey to clear his beloved’s name. When Kinsey reveals the woman’s prior record, she lands in the middle of what may be the biggest case of her career. With such far-reaching consequences, she’s even considering backing off and leaving it to the cops.
Comments: This entry in the series is an example of Grafton at her best. There are several subplots that seem—at first—to be so completely disconnected that I contemplated giving up. I am so glad I didn’t. You’re in the hands of an expert with this book. Sit back, relax, and let it all unfold.
