Series: Chicagoland Vampires series #5
Favorite Quote: None

Summary: Life after Ethan is bad enough for Merit without having to deal with a visiting vampire whose sole purpose seems to be breaking morale and dismantling Cadogen House. Lake Michigan and the Chicago River have turned black. The sky is deep red. Mountains are erupting downtown. The newly elected mayor, and most of the human population, is convinced vampires—particularly Cadogen vamps—are to blame. Merit’s having a really bad week, and she’s more than willing to share the pain with those responsible.

Comments: I have issues with the ending, but it’s hard to articulate them without giving anything away. I was looking forward to seeing Merit progress in the path she seems to have begun to take. Watching her grow, move on, and accept new challenges. But the little surprise “gift” Mallory throws at her toward the end left me feeling distinctly bitter, like the ending of the previous book was a bit of a joke on the reader.
