Favorite Quote: Friedrick, after Celia wants to know why he doesn’t ask how she performs her tricks, “Because I do not wish to know. I prefer to remain unenlightened, to better appreciate the dark.” p. 183
Summary: Le Cirque des Reves arrives without warning. One day there is an empty field, and the next suddenly there is a circus. Open only at night, the circus is a fantastic mélange of what is real, what is not, and what simply is. More than an ordinary circus, it’s the stage upon which Marco, the co-creator, and Celia, one of its star attractions, will meet for a Challenge they have spent their lives been carefully prepared for.
Comments: Even after less-than-thrilled coworker reviews, and my own negative reaction to the blurb, I still decided to read it…which turned out to be one of my better book-related decisions. I absolutely loved this book, but—rather like the circus itself—find it almost impossible to describe why. Part Hunger Games, part Water for Elephants, it’s a whole different level of storytelling.
